Friday Night Rod and Tackle Sweethope Boat League 2026
We are very excited to announce that we are introducing the boat league again for 2026. This league will take place over eight consecutive weeks
For over 50 years, Sweethope Loughs has enjoyed an enviable reputation as being one of the region’s best trout fly fisheries.
Nestled in the scenic Northumberland hills, stands one of the oldest and most esteemed trout fisheries in north-eastern England. Stocked with quality rainbow, brown and blue trout, it has been a cherished destination for anglers pursuing their sport in tranquil ambience and breathtaking surroundings.
Sweethope’s two lakes, the Great Lough of 140 acres and Little Lough of 12 acres, form the headwater of the Wansbeck River which cuts its way to the North Sea through some of Northumberland’s prettiest scenery.
Always popular with local anglers and Clubs, the fishery is under the management of Lisa and Anthony (Ant) Meadows.
Both lakes are regularly stocked with hard-fighting rainbow, blue and brown trout. You can fish from the boat, the bank or float tube at all times of the year.

The fishery is open 7 days a week with seasonal opening hours. Booking in advance is generally not necessary.
Boats, motors and batteries are available for hire. There are reduced rates for the over-65’s and Juniors (13-18yrs).
Do you fancy a fishing break or a family holiday?
We have two well equipped holiday cottages located on the southern bank of the Little Lough and a five-pitch caravan site on its north bank.

One of the best places to fly fish in my opinion always welcome by Lisa and Anthony. Fishing isn't always easy but when they bite hang on. If you like boat or bank or even float tubing then this is the place to go

Brilliant fly fishery. Caught 3 in late October on the great lake using a cats whisker. All beautiful trout. Really great place for the money I would totally recommend!

It was only made better by some amazing fishing in incredibly well kept grounds in some of the most scenery. I couldn’t recommend it enough, get yourselves booked up for a mini break. Amazing thank you the team @sweethope
